QA Checklist
Before sending the project over for review, make sure that all points are considered.
Grammar and Formatting
Spelling Check
Grammar Check
No Extra Spaces
No hyphenations connecting a word on one line to a word on another
Months are spelled out (not abbreviated)
Dates do not contain ordinal suffixes “th”, “st”, “nd”, or “rd”
Floors do contain superscript “th”, “st”, “nd”, or “rd”
Use typographer/smart quotes
Icons are never used to represent floors (within the copy)
Time formatting is in one of the following styles: 10 – 11 a.m. / 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. / 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Ensure first and last names are on the same line
In agendas, guest lists, etc., the name and title of a person are on the same line, with the company name on the second.
Days and months are on the same line
Under or behind each QR code, it is written: Scan QR code to register/for more information
Punctuation is only used at the end of bullet points for lengthy sentences
File names match the name of the project
All email and web addresses are underlined and do not run over multiple lines
Before sending the final project to print or published digitally, make sure that all points are considered.
Colours
Check swatches and colour separations
All CMYK, greyscale or PMS (for print)
Colours for web/screen should be all RGB
Consult branding guidelines for all colour values
Check all swatches – make sure any foils/finishing notes are clearly marked
Remove unused swatches
Images
Check All bleeds, crops, colours
Nothing behind image boxes, no unwanted fills assigned to image boxes, nothing left around in the files
Check resolution of images depending on media
Check ink coverage of image – specs provided by print supplier
Layers:
Clean up and remove keylines
Guides or dielines for printers placed on separate “FPO” layers set to not print
Fonts:
Remove any unused fonts from menu
Outline text if print supplier needs print-ready PDFs
File Size and Dimension:
Check if dimension requirements supplied by client match with file dimensions (in/px) and size (kb)
Check if all important contents (logos, copy, etc) are within the type safety area
If necessary, check if bleed size is correct
Layout and File Attributes:
Step images across page spreads (perfect binding)
Make sure objects, lines and type line up to grids
Check spine widths. Note: discuss with print supplier to ensure this is set up according to their workflow
Check folios and master pages
Make sure ligatures are on
Ensure Typographer’s Quotes is enabled and implemented
Overprint off in source file if knocking out
Make sure H&Js are part of Style Sheets
